Tuesday, April 5, 2011 North River Christian Academy is now accepting applications for the 2011-2012 academic year. Registration will continue throughout the spring semester, and parents are encouraged to register their students as soon as possible to insure a space for 2011-2012. More information may be obtained by calling the NRCA office at 349-4881, 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
North River Christian Academy varsity boy’s basketball team won the Alabama Christian Education Association State Basketball Championship on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at the ACES State Basketball Tournament at the Oxford Civic Center in Oxford, AL. The NRCA basketball team completed a perfect 25-0 season for the first time by winning the state championship game against Tabernacle Christian on February 19.
NRCA 2011 Juniors and Seniors who qualified academically took a College Bound Tour of the University of West Alabama and Shelton State Community College on Tuesday, February 22, 2011. Students were acquainted with the college campuses and given a presentation on admissions standards, scholarship and financial aid qualifications, and general campus information during the annual visits to both campuses. Tuscaloosa Home Educators high school juniors and seniors enrolled in the NRCA Guidance Program also participated in the annual NRCA campus tours.
North River Christian Academy hosted the ACSI District Spelling Bee on Wednesday, February 23, 2011. Winners were selected in each age division at the completion of the competition. NRCA students receiving awards given out at the completion of the competition were first grade students Kacyn Kelly - fourth place, and Jeremiah Lowther - third place. Also receiving awards were fifth grade student Katelyn Burkhalter, fourth place.
ABC 33/40 Chief Meteorologist James Spann spoke to the NRCA student body during their weekly Chapel program on Thursday, February 24, 2011. Mr. Spann talked in depth about weather forecasting and phenomenon, and about his Christian faith and how it has impacted his life.
NRCA held the 2011 NRCA Beauty Walk on Friday, February 25, 2011, in the school gymnasium. Categories included preschool students through high school seniors, and winners were announced in each age division at the conclusion of the pageant.
North River Christian Academy participated in the 2011 ACEA Math Olympics held at Cornerstone Christian in Columbiana on March 4, 2011. NRCA students placing in the state-wide competition included fourth graders Caroline Boswell - placing fourth in Computation, and Emily Wallace - placing 5th in Reasoning. Also placing in the ACEA state math competition were NRCA seventh grade students Taylor Stroup - placing fourth in Computation, Joseph Seale - placing first in Computation, and Mary Rose Cummings – placing third in Reasoning.
NRCA sixth – eighth grade students spent the week of March 7-11, 2011 in Washington DC, touring historical landmarks and meeting with government officials. Students, parents and NRCA faculty members visited the Washington Memorial, Capitol Building, White House, Pentagon, Holocaust Museum, and Mt. Vernon and Arlington National Cemetery while visiting the nation’s capitol.
NRCA varsity and JV cheerleaders held a Pancake Breakfast at the school on Saturday, March 26, to raise funds for the summer cheerleading camp attended annually by the NRCA cheerleaders. All funds received will go to help defray expenses for the NRCA cheerleaders to attend the summer camp.
Tuesday, March 2, 2011 North River Christian Academy is now offering online courses for students attending NRCA, and for home-schooled students. The program provides a web-based learning environment featuring a media-rich online curriculum that can be used through any Internet connection and browser. Switched-On Online offers five core subjects (math, language, history, science, and Bible) plus over thirty diverse electives. Courses are available through NRCA for any 3rd-12th grader. The NRCA Beta Club is hosting a Book Drive for Friends of the Library - a part of the Tuscaloosa Public Library. Friends of the Library sells donated and discarded books to the public to raise money to assist the Tuscaloosa Public Library.
A Financial Aid for College Workshop was held at NRCA for juniors and seniors and their parents on Tuesday, February 23, 2011. In depth information about sources of financial aid for college and the process of applying was provided for parents and students, and assistance filling out financial aid forms was available for parents of 2011 seniors. This assistance is provided annually by the NRCA Guidance Department.
On February 10, 2011 the NRCA 7th-12th grade girls' Bible class returned to Morning Pointe Assisted Living Facility to sing and present valentines to the residents.

Tuscaloosa Ear, Nose and Throat medical staff provided the annual free hearing screening for K-3 through sixth grade students at NRCA on Thursday, November 19 and Friday, November 20. Parents were notified of the results the same day that their child was screened.
North River Christian Academy students who excelled in academics and conduct for the first grading period were treated to breakfast at the City Café in Northport on Friday, November 20. Students were honored for academic excellence in the classroom and exemplary personal conduct during the first nine weeks of the 2010-2011 fall semester.
North River Christian Academy held an Alumni Basketball Game with NRCA students versus recent alumni on Tuesday, November 17 in the recently renovated school gymnasium. The girls competed at 5:00 p.m. and the boys at 6:00 p.m.

North River Christian Academy K-6th grade students were honored the week of November 9 for raising $260.00 for trees and landscaping for the NRCA elementary playground. A dedication for the new playground will be held later in the month of November.
NRCA Beta Club was also honored the week of November 9 for raising over $200.00 during the week of Halloween for the Schools for Schools Program sponsored by Invisible Children International. The funds, and any collected during the rest of this semester, will be sent to the 11 schools in Northern Uganda supported by Schools for Schools/Invisible Children. Funds are used to provide buildings, teachers, supplies, housing and uniforms for the students.
Juniors and Seniors from North River Christian Academy visited Samford University in Birmingham on Thursday, November 5. A campus tour, meetings with admissions officials, and lunch on campus were included in the day spent on campus during the week of Homecoming 2010 at Samford University . The tour was part of the NRCA College Bound Program, which takes NRCA high schools students to visit college and university campuses across the State of Alabama during the academic year.
On Friday, November 6, thirty NRCA elementary students were treated to Disney on Ice in Birmingham to recognize their success in fund raising efforts during the month of October at North River Christian.
NRCA Preschool Program will have a visit by The Barnyard on November 12 & 13. The children will get to play with various baby farm animals to enhance their unit of study on animals in our lives and what they mean to us.
Through November 20 the Beta Club at North River Christian Academy is sponsoring the Shoe Box Ministry through the Samaritan’s Purse Organization. Each NRCA class is contributing at least one shoe box for Operation Christmas Child, which provides Christmas gifts for children in under privileged nations. The shoeboxes include a copy of the New Testament and an explanation of the true meaning of Christmas, as well as Christmas gifts for the child receiving it. An estimated 1.9 million children will have an opportunity to participate in the Operation Christmas Child Ministry.
Tuesday, October 27, 2009 Samford University representative Dylan Scroggins met with NRCA juniors and seniors on Thursday, October 22 to explain the role of Samford University in the higher education system in the State of Alabama . Details about the school’s purpose and mission and the programs available to students were explained to the NRCA students to prepare them for a campus visit to Samford University in Birmingham on Thursday, November 5, 2009.
North River Christian Academy 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students will take a field trip to Montgomery , AL on Tuesday, October 27. The students will visit the State Capitol, the Archives Building , and the Old Alabama Town to enhance their study of our Alabama state government.
The Beta Club at NRCA had begun participating in the international Schools to Schools Project, and will begin their fund-raising for the project during the week of October 26-30, 2009. Beta Club members will be going to each home room daily in Halloween costumes and trick or treating for donations to send to help support needy schools in the country of Uganda.
October 13, 2009 2010 seniors at North River Christian Academy will visit the University of Alabama campus on Tuesday, October 13, 2009. They will tour the campus, meet with admissions representatives, and spend most of the day becoming familiar with opportunities available to them as future students at the University of Alabama.
The PSAT/NMSQT will be administered on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 to juniors and sophomores at North River Christian Academy. The PSAT/NMSQT is a preliminary test for the SAT college admissions assessment, and the first step in identifying candidates for National Merit Scholarship Competition Programs.
NRCA 6th grade student Joseph Seale has been accepted into the People to People World Leadership Forum. Seale will join a select group of students in Washington, D C October 12-17, 2009 to study leadership and explore some of the United States ’ most prominent monuments and institutions. Seale was nominated and accepted for the honor based on outstanding scholastic merit, civic involvement, and leadership potential. The program is coordinated by People to People Leadership Programs to fulfill the vision President Dwight D. Eisenhower had for fostering world citizenship when he founded People to People during his presidency in 1956.
There will be a Parent-Teacher Meeting for all NRCA parents on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will begin in the Open Door Baptist Church sanctuary with a performance by the Academy elementary school choirs, and conclude with visits by NRCA students and parents to the school’s classrooms to meet with faculty members.
K5-6th grade students at NRCA are holding a Penny War during the first two weeks of October to raise money for elementary playground equipment. The competition will end on Thursday, October 15, and the class raising the most money will receive a free Dress Down Day. Anyone wanting to assist in the fund raiser for the NRCA elementary playground is invited to come by the school and contribute to the Penny War collections.
September 29, 2009 On Thursday, September 17, 2009 North River Christian Academy hosted over 90 grandparents for the 2009-2010 Grandparents Day at NRCA. Grandparents of current students toured the school and visited in the student’s classrooms, heard a program by the NRCS Elementary School Choirs, and ate lunch with their grandchildren in the school cafeteria.
Monday, September 21 – Friday, September 25 NRCA students and alumni celebrated Homecoming 2009 with dress up days held each day at the school, culminating with a Tailgate Party and Chili Supper on Thursday. Friday a Pep Rally was held at the school, with 2010 Senior and Homecoming Court Recognitions held at half time of the Friday night Homecoming game with Immanuel Christian.
Beta Club and National Honor Society recognition and induction were held at North River Christian Academy on Thursday, September 24, 2009.
