Field Trips
For many students, field trips are the highlight of the academic school year. Field trips are important for many reasons, such as providing a way for students to improve their social skills, create an opportunity for hands-on learning, provide a means of educational exploration, enhance the curriculum, and are just plain fun, which encourages students to have a positive outlook on learning. After all, why shouldn't learning be fun! Take a look below at some of the field trips we have taken this past year at NRCA.

The Moundville site, occupied from around A.D. 1000 until A.D. 1450, is a large settlement of Mississippian culture on the Black Warrior River in central Alabama. At the time of Moundville's heaviest residential population, the community took the form of a three hundred-acre village built on a bluff overlooking the river. Eight hundred years ago, Moundville was the largest city in North America. NRCA's students are given the opportunity to experience the wonder of this vanished Native American civilization.

In October of each year North River Christian Academy has a Gourmet Cookies fundraising sale. This is not a required fundraiser, but is offered as a means of providing parents a way to help meet their fundraising quota. Each student receives a cookie brochure, a collection envelope, and a letter explaining the fundraiser. In addition to earning the profit towards their fundraising quota, each child who sells 15 items receives a free trip to Disney on Ice at the BJCC in November. This is a much-anticipated field trip each year for every NRCA student who qualifies!

Each fall - usually in October - the K4 and K5 North River Christian Academy classes take a trip to Ye Grand Old Pumpkin Patch in Clanton, AL. Students learn about the fall season and harvesting vegetables, take a hay ride into the Pumpkin Patch, and pick the pumpkin of their choice to take home. Students learn first hand about all of the things you can make with pumpkin - bread, cookies, muffins, and even pumpkin pie! It is a wonderful educational trip for the NRCA K4's and K5's - and eagerly looked forward to in the fall of each year!

Each year The World's Finest Chocolate Sale is held in November and December at North River Christian Academy. It is a voluntary fundraiser to help parents meet their required fundraising quota. The students who participate have a chance to win a trip to the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus in January at the BJCC. Each box of candy contains 50 candy bars that sell for $1.00 each. Students whose families sell 3 boxes can go to the circus FREE! In addition to the circus ticket, for each box of candy you sell you will receive a $17.50 credit towards your fundraising quota. The trip to the circus is a highlight to be looked forward to each January for the winning NRCA students! A great reward for the hard work and tangible support of the programs at North River Christian Academy.
